They regularly visit bird feeders to eat peanuts or sunflower seeds, but they also love acorns, a taste that is credited with helping spread oak trees after the last glacial period. They also mimic the calls of hawks, either as a signal to other jays that a hawk is present or to trick other species into believing one is.
